Summary Description:
  • Assist Inventory Control Manager with maintaining a well-stocked inventory of Parts & Accessories and General Merchandise for the dealership along with accurate, up to date information concerning inventory levels, availability, and source(s).

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Inventory Profitability
    • Maximize profitability of inventory by balancing inventory carrying costs against the demand of P&A, General Merchandise, Service, and Sales. Carry enough inventory to ensure smooth running operations yet keep inventory carrying costs low.
    • Receive stock from manufacturers and distributors; Compare nomenclature, stock numbers, authorized substitutes, purchase price, quantities and other information with purchase invoice, catalogs, manuals, parts lists, and similar references to verify the shipment of merchandise received.
    • Inspect merchandise received for damage, imperfections, or other defects.
    • Compile stock control records and information such as consumption rate, characteristics of items in storage, and current market conditions to determine stock supply and need for replenishment.
    • Prepare requisitions, orders, or other documents for purchase or requisitioning new or additional stock items.
    • Receive and log merchandise into inventory.
    • Tag merchandise with proper mark-up. Display or place into stock.
    • Notify service personnel when special parts or back-ordered parts are received.
    • Keep inventory neatly stacked and orderly.
  2. Inventory Accuracy
    • Become familiar and efficient with all phases of the computer system required for entry and tracking of inventory.
    • Compile data from sources such as purchase orders, invoices, contracts, requisitions and accounting reports and enter the information into computer to maintain inventory, purchasing, or other records.
    • Update inventory control system, parts catalogues, and microfiche.
    • Prepare, analyze, and distribute reports of inventory levels, turnover, etc. and make recommendations to Inventory Control Manager, Parts Manager and General Merchandise Manager concerning disposal of excess stock.
    • Keep a current back order file in established sequence and release back orders for issue or shipment, as stock becomes available.
    • Conduct or participate in periodic physical inventory of all merchandise (counts, reports etc.)
    • Attend training sessions to keep current with General Merchandise and P&A merchandising & inventory control issues.
  3. Reference Supply Information.
    • Maintain a reference of inventory supply information for easy access by P&A General Merchandise, Sales, and Service.
    • Maintain an alphabetized “Ready Reference” of all stock and non-stock merchandise, which may be of interest to customers or dealership personnel. The reference is made up of catalogs, literature, pricing lists, order forms, etc. for merchandise which is currently sold in the dealership or which may be of interest to its customers.
    • Assist dealership personnel determining sources of stock and non-stock items using the “ready reference” of vendor catalogs and other information.

  • Maintain qualifications by reviewing both new and supplemental training programs as they arrive and mastering the skills and information contained within the programs (i.e. P.A.C.E. training programs). Your supervisor will advise you when training programs arrive.
Qualifications & Job Requirements:
  • Friendly, outgoing personality.
  • Knowledge and experience with servicing of motorcycles, and other products sold by the dealership, or the demonstrated ability to quickly learn them. Must commit to become PACE qualified within one year.
  • Experience with Point-of-Sale & computerized inventory systems or the ability to quickly learn.
  • Knowledge of motorcycles front end, suspension, and engine components and the commitment to continually develop knowledge.
Physical Demands:
  • The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
  • Occasionally required to bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and lift 40 lb. of material
Working Conditions:
  • Is potentially exposed to battery acid, gasoline, chemical cleaning materials or other toxic materials commonly found in a motor vehicle service department.
  • Occasionally, exposed to exhaust fumes or other airborne particles.
